Window replacement in St. Lucie West
St. Lucie West was planned and built out in the 1990s, west of I-95 around the Mets spring training ballpark. A lot of its homes still have their original windows. They are often aluminum frames with clear glass that was never designed to keep out the summer heat, and some are older than the homeowners' cars by a couple of decades.
St. Lucie West is part of the City of Port St. Lucie, so replacement windows here go through the city's permit, with each window's product approval listed on the application.
The common problems we see
- Fogged glass. The seal between the panes fails and moisture gets in. It can't be wiped off, and it means the window is no longer insulating.
- Worn hardware. Balances that won't hold the sash up, locks that don't line up and sliders that drag in their tracks.
- Heat gain. Clear glass on south and west walls lets in a lot of solar heat. Low-E impact glass cuts that heat and also blocks UV that fades floors and furniture.
- Shutters. Homes of this age often rely on panels or accordion shutters. Impact windows remove that chore.
Community rules
Many St. Lucie West neighborhoods have an HOA or a property owners' association. Before ordering, check what frame colors and grid styles are allowed. We can give you the product details to submit.
What it costs
As an estimate, impact windows run about $800–$2,100 per standard-size window installed, and standard windows about $500–$1,200. Older openings sometimes need repairs to the frame or stucco once the old window is out, and the quote should list that work. See window replacement cost for whole-house budgets.
St. Lucie West window questions
Are my original St. Lucie West windows worth repairing?
If only the hardware is worn, a repair may be enough. If the glass has fogged, the frame is corroded or you want impact protection, replacement is usually the better spend.
Will new windows help with the heat?
Low-E glass with a low solar heat gain rating cuts the heat coming through sunny windows. How much it helps your power bill depends on the house, so we don't promise a fixed saving.
